17.05.18 Seminar-1

An important step towards the sustainable development is the formation of future generations with modern thinking in the direction of efficient resource consumption and arming the latest international approaches to take the necessary decisions on the industry development.
On May 18, 2017 in Aarhus Information and Educational Centre of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine it was held a seminar “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production- a Training Course for Universities in Ukraine”, organized in the frame of demonstration RECP component of “Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighborhood of European Union (EaP GREEN)” programme, funded by the EU.
The event brought together about 30 people, including representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, representatives of universities, including Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, State Environmental Academy of Postgraduate Education and Management, Institute of Economics Industry NAS of Ukraine, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, Union of Small, Medium and Privatized Enterprises of Ukraine etc.

Mariia Tsybka, National Coordinator of Demonstration RECP Project in Ukraine, opened the Forum by welcoming all the participants and addressed the gratitude to the party that hosted the event. She stressed the necessity to change world view according to the modern trends of the environment and enhance the competitiveness of businesses due to the "next generation" of bachelors, masters and specialists - future engineers, managers and executives of small and medium enterprises in Ukraine.

Liudmyla Musina, National Coordinator of UNIDO and EaP GREEN programme cooperation in Ukraine, spoke about the development of new approaches in the direction of "green" economy and in particular the starting the Strategy of the development of industry complex and the importance of including the component concerning resource efficiency and environmental industry. In addition, she informed the guests about the "Report of green transformation in Ukraine» (http://openaid.gov.ua/uk/new_posts/25), which presented indicators of natural resources use in industrial sector in Ukraine. This document is based on the OECD methodology. She emphasized the relevance of resource and cleaner production training from student level.
Executive Director of the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre in Ukraine Taras Sakalosh noted that implementation of a training course "Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production" is not only competitive advantage for universities during the recruitment of students, but also an opportunity to raise awareness among future specialists in different areas of knowledge (e.g. principles and approaches of "green" economy).

Galyna Sierova welcomed the guests on behalf of Aarhus Information and Educational Centre and stressed the importance and urgency of the event organization for education and business in Ukraine.
Nelia Chernenko expressed the position of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine regarding the importance of the human resources for further sustainable ecological and economic development of Ukraine and its transition to "green" model of production and consumption.
Volodymyr Hulo, a representative of the Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, said about procedure and features of implementation of new disciplines in the educational process. He noted that training programs must comply with needs of the industrial sector.
National Communication and Advocacy Expert of RECP in Ukraine Kateryna Romanova presented materials for the training course "Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production" developed under the demonstration RECP project. There were presented the structure of lecture notes and list of topics with explanations of key objectives, advantages, principles, approaches, terminology and global environmental aspects of RECP methods. Discipline "Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production" corresponds to the current priorities of national economic development and environmental protection.
The representative of the Institute of Industrial Economics of NAS of Ukraine Olexandr Liakh said that knowledge in resource efficient and cleaner production are needed to manage environmental-oriented clusters that will solve the problems of eco-innovation development and development of modern technologies.
Viacheslav Bykovets, Director of the Union of Small, Medium and Privatized Enterprises of Ukraine, expressed the request from businesses for personnel with knowledge in the field of "green" economy. In particular, he noted that presence of RECP specialist at the state enterprises is a step to clean and competitive production.
Vorfolomeiev Andrii, a representative of the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, described the experience of approving curricula for bachelor and inclusion in their discipline "Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production".

All participants, including Yaroslav Mikheev (Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine) Maryna Suhanevych and Tetiana Tkachenko (KNUBA), Olexandr Chubenko (Kremenchug steel company), Olena Kotsar (LLC "Yunilos-Ukraine"), Maryna Cheban (SMC "Ecological initiative") took part in discussion and provided useful and practical recommendations for expanding and improving the lecture notes. All comments, suggestions and refinements of experts will be considered in publishing the lecture notes "Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production".
