Consultative dialogues “Resource efficient and cleaner production for the industrial sector of Ukraine”

Kyiv 1On May 21 and 22, 2015 at the Chamber of Commerce in Vinnytsia and the Administrative Board room of NTUU "KPI" in Kyiv consultative dialogues “Resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP) for the industrial sector of Ukraine” were held within the framework of EaP GREEN programme and demonstration project of UNIDO. During events participants of dialogues (representatives of international organizations, government, business, financial, social and educational organizations) discussed the methods of RECP customizing and domestication to national context in Ukraine including business and government agendas, natural resources and environmental issues, business organization.

 

The specialists on RECP adaptation in different countries Zinaida Fadeeva (United Nations University) and Thomas Lindhqvist (International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics) outlined to present the essence and tasks of RECP, and planned issues for further dialogue. All participants (more than 60 specialists from different areas) actively discussed and harmonized the local terminology that will be used to describe the objectives, benefits, practices, techniques and principles of RECP. Further, the urgency of RECP on national and SMEs levels was considered, as well as mechanisms for the motivating of those companies to improve efficiency of resources use.

In opening remarks, Petra Schwager (UNIDO) emphasized that RECP is a globally proven approach to increase productivity and reduce the environmental impact of industrial enterprises. It has benefits for businesses, the environment and climate, economy and society as a whole, and it is as confirmed by the experience of RECP implementation on dozens of enterprises in Ukraine since 2007.

Kyiv 2Taking the opportunity, UNIDO representative Petra Schwager, economic adviser to the Ambassador of Republic of Slovenia in Ukraine Taras Prytula and director of the RECP Centre Igor Shylovych exchanged approving thoughts on the further cooperation for the "greening" of Ukrainian industry.
