Produce more, consume less: UNIDO Project outcomes in Kyiv region

IMG 1232On December 14, 2017 the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre organized and successfully carried out the conference “Resource Efficiency Outcomes In Kyiv Region”. Among various goals the conference key focus was concentrated on disseminating the experience in RECP concept implementation at industrial enterprises; demonstrating the best achievements and outcomes of the UNIDO international technical assistance project in Kyiv region; discussing project focal areas for further development based on the requests from local companies and industries.

Serhii Shukaiev, deputy head of the international cooperation department at Igor Sikorsky KPI noted in his opening speech: "The UNIDO Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Project has become very significant and symbolic for our University. Nowadays RECP Centre acts as an important participant and component of the innovative ecosystem that is currently being developed at Igor Sikorsky KPI."

National industries need almost 1000 RECP experts

IMG 0635 сайтOn November 21, 2017, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Kyiv) hosted the information workshop (WS) for university lecturers “Integrating RECP Course into Higher Education: International Prospects”. To ensure the workshop run well the RECP Centre undertook its organization and supervision.

The teachers and lecturers from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Kyiv), Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, NTUU “Kharkiv Politechnic Institute” (Kharkiv), Lviv National Forestry University, National Agrarian University in Bila Tserkva (Kyiv region) etc.

Yurii Yakymenko, the first pro-rector of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” started the WS and stressed on the importance of the issue discussed. He pointed out the topicality of RECP integration into university curriculum in view of the present environmental situation within Ukraine and worldwide, the situation that leaves much room to be desired.

RECP best practice at V International Trade Fair “Industrial ecology-2017” in Kyiv

IMG 0267The Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre hold an information seminar for vendors “Implementation of resource efficient and cleaner production in Ukraine: best practices” within V International Trade Fair “Industrial ecology-2017” on November 7, 2017.

The audience was presented by company management, research institutions, university lecturers, environmental associations etc.

Dr. Johannes Fresner, Geschäftsführer/Managing Partner, STENUM GmbH, opened the first half of the seminar with his PPT presentation “RECP low-cost measures for industrial enterprises”. He shared his own experience in implementing low-cost measures aimed at energy and resource efficiency at the enterprises in Austria and worldwide.

RECP Policy: Fostering Green Industries In Ukraine. The Expert Group Meeting Report

2017-10-17 01.03.13 1The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Policy: Fostering Green Industries in Ukraine” within UNIDO support and UNIDO Project framework “Promoting the Adaptation and Adoption of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) through the Establishment and Operation of a Cleaner Production Centre (CPC) in Ukraine” was held on 12 October 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The Resource Efficient and Cleaner production Centre acted as the EGM organizer and coordinator.

The EGM overall objective was to reach a common understanding of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production and the policy development in the Ukrainian context. The EGM aimed to discuss and agree on requirements for the implementation of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production in Ukraine to facilitate a regulatory framework in order to support green industrial development.

On-line seminar “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) in the Construction Materials Sector

On October 24, 2017 in the six countries of the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) an online-seminar “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) in the Construction Materials Sector” was held. It was organized within the framework of demonstration RECP project under “Greening Economies in the European Union's Eastern Neighbourhood” (EaP GREEN) programme. UNIDO expert Mr Dick van Beers (Germany) presented the RECP Guide for the construction materials sector in Minsk, and Belarusian Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre provided an online broadcast of this event.
In Ukraine, the online-seminar could be attended individually using pre-registration, as well as in organized group session in the conference hall of the Institute of Innovative Education of Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture. The event was supported by Ukrainian Union of Manufacturers of Construction Materials and Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre. Representatives of enterprises of the construction materials sector, experts of consulting companies, teaching staff of higher educational institutions participated in the event. About 30 applications for a link for individual joining the seminar were received, that enabled interested specialists from different parts of Ukraine to familiarize themselves with the RECP approaches in the industry. About 20 people took part in the group session. They had the opportunity to discuss the most interesting topics with colleagues.

RECP Principles and its Implementation at SEF-2017

17.10.11-2The 9th International Sustainable Energy Forum and Exhibition of Eastern Europe SEF-2017 Kyiv took place on October 9-11 in Kyiv. SEF-2107 is big platform for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and new energy technologies. It is traditionally brings together participants not only from Ukraine but also from the neighbouring Eastern European and CIS countries. During three days of SEF-2017 Kyiv, the latest changes and initiatives in legislation and state policy of Ukraine and neighbouring countries, sustainable energy solutions for businesses and industrial sector, utilities and infrastructure, and private households were presented and discussed.

SEF Kyiv Forum and Exhibition is meeting of stakeholders for promoting energy efficiency and renewable energies, learning about successful policies and inspiring innovations to meet new energy and climate goals. 440 delegates of forum, 58 exhibitors and 2.5 thousand visitors of the exhibition from 32 countries became participants of the industry event.

A number of workshops for small enterprises and household was hosted. Thus, within the framework of SEF-2017 KYIV, the workshop "Resource Efficient and Clean Production – Principles and Implementation Experience" was held on October 11, 2017. It presented results of the demonstration project "Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production" under the EU-funded EaP GREEN programme. The workshop was attended by near 40 participants, including producers of energy effective equipment (developers, manufacturers, installers and distributors), consulting companies, energy supplying companies, financing institutions, regulatory bodies, investors, NGOs, government officials and mass media.

Seminar “Raising Resource Efficiency of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises through Clubs Approach”

On October 5, 2017, in Poltava, a seminar “Raising Resource Efficiency of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises through Clubs Approach” was held within the framework of the demonstration component "Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production" under "Greening Economies in the European Union's Eastern Neighbourhood" (EaP Green) programme. The event was supported by the Department of Economic Development, Trade and Investment Promotion of the Poltava Regional State Administration and Poltava University of Economics and Trade. The purpose of the event was to consider the benefits of implementing resource efficient and cleaner production (RECP), to discuss the possibility of using the RECP Clubs as a tool for increasing the resource efficiency of enterprises, to identify and attract potential participants and to support the creation of the RECP Club in the Poltava region.

The event was attended representatives of enterprises, non-governmental organizations, government bodies and experts who are interested in opportunities for improving production in the direction of efficient use of resources (energy, materials and water).

Opportunities and Advantages of integrating RECP course in curricular of the Ukrainian universities

IMG 8735June, 27, in the NTUU “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” premises an information seminar “Integration of RECP course in the universities’ curricular: advantages and opportunities” for teachers of high schools was held. The seminar was organized in the framework of UNIDO project “Promoting the adaptation and adoption of RECP through the establishment and operation of a Cleaner Production Centre in Ukraine”. The methodological principles of the resource-efficient and cleaner production concept, examples of implementing RECP projects at the industrial enterprises were presented in the course of seminar. Participants had the opportunity to discuss the experience of teaching RECP course and related disciplines within the framework of various curricular.

Webinars on RECP in milk processing and chemicals treatment

In 2016, as a part of RECP demonstration project under EaP GREEN programme, special Pocket Guides were prepared and published in the national languages of the six participating countries for specialists working in milk processing industry, as well as for chemicals industry specialists. To popularize these Guides, it was proposed to organise two on-line seminars for specialists in all EU Eastern Partnership countries.

Two on-line seminars “Modern Technologies and Processes of Milk Processing Aimed the Resources and Energy Efficient Use at European Milk Processing Factories” and “European approaches and options for the efficient and responsible chemicals management” were held on 4th July 2017. On-line seminars were organized and conducted by Belarusian Center for Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production in Minsk. Lecturer was UNIDO’s expert Johannes Fresner (Austria).

Round table “Attract Financing the Resource Efficient Measures for Small and Medium Enterprises”

On June 26, 2017 in Poltava, a round table "Attract Financing the Resource Efficient Measures for Small and Medium Enterprises" was held. It was conducted within the framework of the demonstration component "Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production" under "Greening Economies in the European Union's Eastern Partnership Countries" programme (EaP GREEN) with the support of the Department of Economic Development, Trade and Investment Attraction of the Poltava Regional State Administration.

The aim of the event was to consider the benefits of implementing the resource efficient and cleaner production, analysis of opportunities and barriers for small and medium-sized enterprises with the implementation of resource efficient measures, discussion of ways to intensify the implementation of RECP options at enterprises.

The round table was attended by about 40 representatives of enterprises, non-governmental organizations, public authorities and experts who are interested in the possibilities of attracting investments to modernize production in the direction of efficient use of resources (energy, materials and water).

On June 22, 2017 in Kyiv as part of the demonstration component "Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production" of "Greening the Economies in the European Union’s Eastern Neighbourhood" programme (EaP GREEN) a round table "Learning from resource efficient and cleaner production to move towards the circular economy in Ukraine" was held.

The purpose of the event was to discuss approaches to resource efficient and cleaner production, experience of its implementation in Ukraine, principles of circular economy, priorities of state policy towards the goals of sustainable development and greening the industrial production.

The event was attended by representatives of Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), international organizations and projects, public unions and organizations, business associations, education and science institutions.
