On February 16, 2016 at the Hall of the Academic Council of Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA), Forum “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP):sourcing and efficient use of water” has brought together representatives of Kyivvodokanal, State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine, Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Municipal Services of Ukraine, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and a lot of other persons who are interested in solving the problem of sourcing and efficient use of water resources.
The actuality of Forum’s topic and necessity of promotion and stimulation consumers to rational use of water resource was many times underlined during the event. It was also mentioned that the problem of excessive use of water belongs to one of the critical processes that affect the Earth's environmental sustainability.
The participants have discussed the new standard - ISO14046 “Environmental management. Water footprint. Principles, requirements and guidelines” that is intended for efficient use of water and can help avoid losses and can provide the tools for businesses to reduce water consumption. The representatives of National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture and Ukrainian Institute of Scientific, Technical and Economic Information have highlighted the latest trends in development of practical technologies for water management and water treatment and stressed that the implementation of such technologies on working enterprises requires detailed economic assessment, as this step should be primarily profitable for business. It is also necessary to have additional legislative incentives in the field of water management.
In a framework of the event were represented the latest statistics on water consumption in different sectors and the report about the current situation of water resources in Ukraine. All participants had an opportunity to participate in the survey and answer the questions proposed by the organizers as well as share their opinion and propositions that would be taken into consideration by the EaP GREEN project team for organization of the following events dedicated to popularization and implementation of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) concept in Ukraine.
The Forum was organized by the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre in Ukraine under the support of Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture and Institute of Scientific, Advanced Education of KNUCA in a framework of “Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighborhood of European Union (EaP GREEN)” programme and UNIDO demonstration project “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP)”.
