Women in the industry

United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) recognizes that gender equality and the empowerment of women have a significant positive impact on sustained economic growth and sustainable industrial development, i.e. it is the driving force for poverty reduction and social inclusion.

The organization supports the program goals of gender equality and empowerment of women both collectively in the system of United Nations and individually in specialized agencies of the United Nations that promote well-being of women and men in all countries on the basis of sustainable industrial development and industrial cooperation for development goals.

UNIDO policy on gender equality and the empowerment of women provides general guidance for the creation the account policy of gender issues:

• ensures that gender mainstreaming is reflected in the programs, policies and organizational practices;
• seeks common goal of gender equality and empowerment of women, including economic rights and opportunities for women;
• provides the benefits of different experience and expert knowledge in the system of the United Nations to promote the internationally agreed development goals in the area of gender equality;
• accelerates activity of the UN aimed to achieve the goal of gender balance, particularly at the level of decision-making.
