Energy efficiency at Kharkiv-based companies - European practice

IMG 6811.jpg 1“We have been empowered with a special mission to demonstrate people that systemic approach does produce benefit whatever activity or issue one has chosen to deal with”, reported Serhii Khudobin, Project coordinator in Kharkiv region. “It is absolutely obvious everybody is aware of urgent need to modernize production lines thus guaranteeing good and substantial profit. Kharkiv region has been traced with positive reputation of the one pertaining high-skilled professional staff capable to address any challenge. However, in the course of time we all are getting used to many things around us and lose our “sharp eye”, our capability to see that changes have already become a “must have” need today; moreover, maybe we’re even running late with these changes. And here we show up! We can help and provide necessary tips. It should be noted that scientists and engineers’ involvement in conducting technical audits is a good chance to get a part-time job. That is why we do invite such professionals to join our National Expert Pool. All they need to do is get trained and get certified. The first expert pool team has been already trained, but as long as we keep on expanding our clients’ database, we foresee we’ll need more and more experts.

The Experts shared information about RECP in Ukraine

IMG 9246The press-briefing with UNIDO representatives discussed the results of the UNIDO project “Promoting the Adaptation and Adoption of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) through the Establishment and Operation of a Cleaner Production Centre (CPC) in Ukraine” and took place at the press center of LIGABusinessInform Information Agency.

The briefing was held on the eve of the High-Level Expert Group Meeting (EGM) “Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production Policy: Fostering Green Industries in Ukraine”. The event will be hosted by Parkovyi Exhibition Center, on October 12th. The EGM aims to discuss and agree on requirements for the implementation of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production in Ukraine to facilitate a regulatory framework in order to support green industries development.

No extra costs for solving 50% of the enterprises’ problems

12052017-13Director of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre (RECPC) Ihor Shylovych answered the questions of the Liga.net portal. According to Mr.Shylovych, nowdays rational use of resources is a challenge not only for the national enterprises, but also for the enterprises from Europe, Japan, the USA. “These countries have at their disposal a legislative framework that generates incentives for implementing resource efficiency. Thanks to the technical policy, which is being permanently developed and updated, resources’ costs are significantly reduced in kind. We need to study this experience. Last year, on the initiative of our Swiss partners, a study tour was organized for the Center's employees and representatives of the companies with which we cooperate. Thanks to this study tour, many participants have changed their mind regarding those production processes, which previously seemed to be so obvious and clear. Participants were strongly determined to implement the things they had learnt abroad at their enterprises."

Condominiums in Lviv will save 18 thousand UAH annually if the residents start sorting wastes today

img 5099 1Vasyl Prusak, the RECP Centre expert, took part in a discussion titled "The updated strategy of waste management in Lviv: Challenges and Prospects", which held on December 23rd 2016. Having gained positive experience in managing condominiums, he shared his own ideas on how to start and establish an effective process to implement wastes recycling if the wastes are preliminary sorted.
“We can’t build a recycling plant right now, so we all need to help ourselves alone. There are 116 apartments in my condominium and I have made some calculations. If all inhabitants start sorting household garbage and collecting paper, plastic, glass and metal (at least a little) wastes in separate tanks for further recycling they can earn 600-800 UAH per month. Every year we spend 30 thousand UAH for garbage collection by municipal services. If the residents sort the garbage, they will save about 18 thousand UAH! But this scheme can start running effectively only if we learn to sort this garbage already at our own kitchen”, – V.Prusak commented.

Can organic waste turn into income?

контейнери підчас ЕкоФорумуThe project on organic waste processing within one neighborhood was presented at the first environmental Forum "Cities and local communities: their role in solving global environmental problems" in Lviv, November 10-11th, 2016. Vasyl Prusak is the project developer and the expert working for RECP Center.

The project provides for organic waste processing within one neighborhood for a group of multistoried buildings. The implementation idea presupposes purchasing and installing equipment for organic waste processing at boiler house territory located in a densely populated area. Several dozens of neighboring buildings will be collecting the wastes for further delivery to the processing site. Due to project successful realization, the boiler house will produce biogas up to 20,000 m3 for hot water supply (water heating purposes). However, the project outcome is not limited only with one product, as bio-fertilizers are the by-product and will be sold for farms. The project implementation within one neighborhood covering area and that is 1,000 buildings can ensure reducing natural gas consumption by 15-18,000 m3.
